About this event

This workshop turns policy into practice, empowering care partners to have the right conversations in the right way.

As the Support at Home Program reshapes how aged care is delivered and funded, the way providers discuss and manage participant contributions has changed, too. Care partners are now expected to navigate complex conversations about fees, funding inclusions, and personal contributions, all while maintaining trust, transparency, and alignment with participant goals.

This interactive workshop is designed to help care partners and coordinators build the knowledge and confidence to handle contribution discussions with clarity and compassion. Attendees will gain a deep understanding of how contribution arrangements are determined under the new model, what their obligations are as providers, and how to communicate these requirements effectively and ethically.

As care partners new to the Support at Home environment, this workshop will provide the practical tools, frameworks, and language needed to approach contribution discussions with professionalism, consistency, and confidence.

🔥 Overview

The introduction of new funding arrangements and clearer definitions of what is and isn’t subsidised means that care partners play a pivotal role in ensuring contribution discussions are handled ethically, consistently, and in line with legislative requirements.

For many care partners, these conversations can be challenging. They require balancing regulatory compliance, financial clarity, and compassionate communication. Yet, handled well, they can also strengthen trust, empower participants, and reinforce the provider’s commitment to person-centred care.

This workshop has been designed by LPA to give care partners the skills, language, and confidence to conduct contribution discussions that are not only compliant but constructive and values-based.

Drawing on LPA’s deep expertise in aged care reform and provider readiness, the session will:

  • Unpack the practical application of participant contributions under the Support at Home framework.
  • Explain how contributions interact with participant assessments, Notices of Decision, and individualised care plans.
  • Provide tools for managing conversations around cost, affordability, and choice with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Explore case studies that illustrate common pitfalls and best-practice approaches.
  • Clarify documentation, record-keeping, and audit expectations under the Aged Care Act 2024.

Attendees will not only understand what needs to be communicated but also how to communicate it in a way that builds confidence, maintains dignity, and aligns with the intent of the reform: to deliver transparent, person-centred, and sustainable care.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify provider responsibilities in determining, recording, and communicating participant contributions in line with legislative and policy expectations.
  2. Conduct contribution discussions with confidence, using clear, compassionate, and transparent language that supports informed decision-making and participant choice.
  3. Apply practical frameworks and scripts for managing sensitive conversations about affordability, financial hardship, or service inclusions while maintaining trust and respect.
  4. Link contribution discussions to participant goals and service plans, ensuring alignment between funding, outcomes, and care delivery.
  5. Document contribution arrangements effectively, including evidence of communication, consent, and agreement, to ensure compliance and audit-readiness.
  6. Recognise and address common challenges and misunderstandings in contribution discussions through analysis of real-world case studies and scenarios.
  7. Strengthen organisational confidence by ensuring all care partners understand their role in upholding fairness, transparency, and accountability in financial discussions.

When it comes to online training, we know that staring into the “virtual classroom” can sometimes miss those moments that face-to-face events deliver. So, we are mixing things up. In a time of transformation in the sector, we want to make sure now, more than ever, that you are being supported. We will be focusing even more on interactive, immersive training sessions (think break-out rooms, cameras on (yes scary), opportunities to network, and of course, maintaining the LPA way of tangible tools and resources).
