Consultancy Success Story: MacDonnell Regional Council aged care services, MacCare.
The driving force behind Lorraine Poulos and Associates (LPA) is the way we work with service providers in the human service sector.
We work collaboratively with them to ensure that they can make a real difference to the lives of those they serve. We are always so ecstatic and humbled to hear of the success stories of our clients after their training and consultancy services with us.
MacDonnell Regional Council aged care services, MacCare spans eight regional communities across the Northern Territory. MacCare delivers the National Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islander Flexible Aged Care Program and the Commonwealth Home Support Program to over 100 clients.

In April 2022, MacCare engaged LPA to train the aged care team. Following a successful two-day training, MacCare sought additional assistance from LPA in reviewing their policies and procedures, readiness for a Quality Review, coaching, and guidance for their quality coordinator and clinical coordinator. We are happy to report that after undergoing their Quality Review by the ACQSC in June, MacCare met every single requirement in the Aged Care Standards!
On a recent visit to the Northern Territory, our Senior Consultant James Lim chatted to the MacCare team about their success. The team shared that after their training with LPA aged care consultants, the entire team felt that they have improved their understanding of integrating Aged Care Quality Standards into practice. The team worked hard and well together to address gaps in practice as well as how to harness the power and the art of storytelling to highlight how elders in the regional communities are supported and provided with the best quality care. The elders were thrilled to share the positive stories and how they were cared for and supported to live independently in their local communities.
MacCare demonstrated that they could deliver quality personal and clinical care excellence even in remote communities through effective community partnership, collaboration with NT health clinics, ACAT and other allied health, and defining the client’s circles of support.
“The LPA consultant, James showed us practical and simple tools to improve our understanding and work practice. It brought a new meaning and purpose to the work we do.
We were nervous but prepared with knowledge and confidence during the Quality Review. We demonstrated to the Assessors how we understood the aged care standards and worked together as a team and as one community to care for our elders.”
Following their positive experience, MacCare shared their learning experience with their neighbouring Central Desert Regional Council who then reached out to LPA to collaborate on improving their aged care services. Central Desert Regional Council caters for nine regional communities.
The LPA team is humbled by the positive experience and opportunities to contribute and support rural and remote regional communities for aged care in-home services.
